Janet I. McCurdy

Janet is a trusts and estates practitioner with over 40 years of experience serving clients throughout Frederick, Washington, Carroll and Montgomery Counties. She works with clients of all ages and professional backgrounds to devise comprehensive estate plans that provide peace of mind as they age, by reducing or deferring estate taxes, ensuring liquidity and addressing business succession issues.  Janet is proud to represent numerous local farmers seeking to preserve family farming traditions by ensuring family farms are passed down to the next generation of farmers, and by placing farms in state and county agricultural preservation programs.

Holding a Masters of Law (LLM) in taxation law, Janet offers significant tax expertise to clients with taxable estates, and regularly works with clients to establish formal gifting programs; form partnerships and limited liability companies; establish irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILIT), and charitable remainder unitrusts (CRUT).

Janet represents personal representatives in the administration of estates, preparing accountings, assisting with the conveyance of real estate and personal property. She also represents trustees in the administration, management and distribution of assets held in trust.

Janet received her B.A. from Duke University, her J.D. from the University of Richmond, and her Masters of Law (LLM) in taxation law from Georgetown University. She is admitted to the State Bars of Maryland and Virginia, and formerly served on the Estate and Trust Law Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association. Janet is an active member of the Bar Association of Frederick County and also serves on the Board of Directors for Woodsboro Bank.
